Oh, sweet friends, the holidays are here again—the season of togetherness, twinkling lights, and the warmth of a house filled with loved ones. There’s something about this time of year that makes everything feel softer, sweeter, and closer to the heart.
One of my favorite traditions during the holidays is gathering around the table with those I love most, sharing laughter, stories, and, of course, delicious food. If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I’m a sucker for a dish that feels like a warm hug—and today, I’m sharing just that.
This Sweet Potato & Pecan Casserole is one of my most beloved holiday recipes. It’s not only gluten-free and dairy-free but also rich in flavor and easy to make. Even more than the taste, though, I love what it represents: care, nourishment, and the joy of sharing something made with love.
The Heart Behind the Recipe
The holidays can be so many things—busy, chaotic, magical, overwhelming—but at their core, they’re about the gift of gathering. To me, making a dish like this casserole is a way of saying, I see you, I care about you, I want you to feel at home here.
When I think about Jesus, the ultimate Giver, I’m reminded of how He invites us to His table. He feeds us with His grace, His presence, His love. What a gift it is to reflect that by inviting others to ours.
Sweet Potato & Pecan Casserole Recipe
Let’s talk about this casserole. It’s sweet, spiced, and topped with a pecan crumble that’ll have you sneaking back for seconds. Perfect for potlucks, family dinners, or simply savoring on a cozy weeknight.
Ingredients
4 large sweet potatoes, cooked and mashed
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup gluten-free flour
1/2 cup chopped pecans
A pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg (because a little spice warms the soul)
Instructions
Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F. Grease a medium baking dish with a little coconut oil.
Prepare the sweet potato base: In a large bowl, mix the mashed sweet potatoes, melted coconut oil, and maple syrup until smooth.
Create the topping: In a smaller bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, chopped pecans, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well to make the crumble.
Assemble the casserole: Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into your prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the pecan topping generously over the top.
Bake with love: Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and slightly crisp.
Serve and enjoy: Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. (Warning: It’ll disappear quickly!)
Gathering and Grace
As I make this dish, I often think about the people I’ll share it with—the conversations we’ll have, the memories we’ll create. There’s a quiet holiness in that, don’t you think? The food is part of the celebration, yes, but it’s also a symbol of something deeper: the grace we offer one another when we sit down together.
And let’s not forget to offer that same grace to ourselves. If this season feels overwhelming, if you’re carrying more than you think you can bear, remember to pause and breathe. Light a candle, say a prayer, make something simple and nourishing like this casserole, and let it remind you of the One who carries you.
